Policyholder
A policyholder is the individual or entity that owns an insurance policy, is responsible for paying premiums, and has control over the policy, such as making changes to coverage or beneficiaries. While the policyholder is often the person insured under the policy, they may also purchase coverage for someone else; regardless, the policyholder is entitled to any benefits outlined in the policy and is accountable for complying with its terms. In group or employer-sponsored plans, the policyholder may be the business or organization, and covered individuals are listed as insureds.
