Rollover
A rollover is a financial process where funds, positions, or agreements are transferred or reinvested from one account, investment, or contract to another, often to maintain tax advantages or to extend the duration of an investment. In retirement and investment contexts, it typically refers to the movement of money from one tax-advantaged retirement plan (such as a 401(k) or IRA) to another without creating a taxable event, preserving the tax-deferred status. Rollovers can also apply to reinvesting proceeds from maturing securities, rolling over loans, or extending the term of financial agreements. Rollovers provide flexibility, continuity, and help avoid penalties or taxes that would otherwise occur if funds were withdrawn from a tax-advantaged account.
