Dividend

A payment made by a corporation to its shareholders, usually from profits or retained earnings, as a reward for holding shares. Dividends may be paid in cash, additional stock, or other property, are typically distributed on a regular schedule (such as quarterly), and are determined by the company's board of directors. Not all companies pay dividends; some retain earnings for reinvestment and growth.
