Total return is a comprehensive measure of an investment’s overall performance, reflecting both capital gains (price increases) and income (such as dividends or interest), over a specific time period. It shows the total value accumulated—including all sources of return—usually as a percentage of the original investment. Total return provides a clearer picture of how much an investment has grown, beyond just price changes.
