Yield is the income generated by an investment—such as interest from bonds or dividends from stocks—expressed as a percentage of its cost, market value, or face value. Yield does not include any capital gains or losses; it only measures the cash flow earned from holding the asset. Common types of yield include dividend yield (stocks), current yield (bonds), and yield to maturity (bonds held to maturity).
